Superior Court

The Superior Court handles all felony criminal cases, including death penalty cases, with the assistance of the District Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office and privately retained attorneys. The Superior Court also handles Adoptions, Child Custody, Child Support, Divorces, Garnishments, Family Violence and Stalking Protective Orders, Habeas Corpus, Name Changes, Parental Rights, Title to Land Disputes, and Other Civil Suits.

As of January 1, 2019, Georgia law requires that all civil cases filed by attorneys in the Superior Court be filed electronically. Our e-filing provider is PeachCourt, which may be accessed at www.peachcourt.com. The civil filing fee is $202.00. If service by the Sheriff’s Office is required, there is an additional fee of $50.00.

Self Represented Parties: We are unable to accept credit or debit card payments for civil filing fees and copy fees. We accept money orders (preferred) or cash, but not personal checks.

Superior Court Judges elected by the citizens of the Middle Judicial Circuit preside over all matters within the Superior Court. The Middle Judicial Circuit is comprised of Washington, Jefferson, Emanuel, Toombs, and Candler Counties.

The Superior Court Judges for the Middle Judicial Circuit are Chief Judge Robert S. Reeves from Emanuel County and Judge Tommy J. Smith from Toombs County.

Washington County Superior Court is in session at 10:00 a.m. on the first and third Thursday of the month. Trial terms are reserved for the 1st Monday in March, June, and December, and on the 2nd Monday in September.

Fees for Copies of Records:

Copies – $1.00 per page (O.C.G.A. §15-6-77(g))

Certified Copies – $2.50 for the first page, $0.50 for each page thereafter (O.C.G.A. 15-6-77(g))
